The boys from High, Soft & Fat celebrating their semi-final win at Moonah Links
A pretty good morning weather wise greeted the field on arrival at Moonah Links for the Semi Finals. But it wouldn’t be long before the strong northerly that was forecast would increase in intensity across the day making it difficult for players to negotiate this difficult course.
Unlike the Quarter Finals where we had a number of close contests, both semi-finals would be one-sided affairs, with “High, Soft & Fat” winning all four contests, and “Drive For Show, Putt For Dough” winning three and a half contests. Only Matthew Wilson from “Fergy’s Fantastic Five” managed a half with Anthony Glenn, ending the dream run of Fergy’s Fantastic Five through the competition. Dale Batchelor (FFF), fought back from 4 down to be within 2 with 2 to play, but ultimately lost 3 & 1 to Tristan Verhoef (DFS,PFD). Jarrod Dawson (DFS,PFD), was never headed up against Robert Saunders (FFF) winning 5 & 4, and Phillip Withers (DFS,PFD) won by walk-over.
High, Soft & Fat continued their good form through the preliminaries making short work of Voltaradol. Two close contests though, one between Peter Lincoln (HSF), and Matt O’Ryan (V), where Peter held on to win 3 & 1 after never being in deficit. The other contest between Rob Greenwood (HSF) and Tony Gedye, Rob eventually winning 3 & 2. The final two results were both 6 & 5 results, David Halls (HSF) over Geoff Chapman (V), and David Bertone (HSF) over Wayne Franklin (V), again the winners were never headed by their opposition.
So the Final at Victoria Golf Club on August 6 is shaping up as a classic. “High, Soft & Fat”, after finishing top of the table after the first 3 rounds, haven’t lost a match. In fact, they have only lost 2 contests all series thus far, and “Drive For Show, Putt For Dough”, who were second bottom of the table after Round 1, are hitting form at the business end. They have only lost 3 contests since Round 2. I can’t wait!
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY GOLFING!
